The Talkhouse Award was established to honor an individual whose efforts personify patriotism, demonstrate compassion, and have helped to further the mission of WWP in support of the brave men and women of our Armed Forces.
From the founding of WWP, U-Haul tremendously supported our nation’s wounded servicemen and women and the mission of WWP. Last year alone, U-Haul generated over $7.2 million in advertising and public awareness opportunities for Wounded Warrior Project.
U-Haul’s passionate dedication to supporting warriors is evident by their support of WWP’s Soldier Ride™, an adaptive cycling event that allows warriors to ride alongside fellow injured service members and the community to reclaim their confidence and strength in a supportive environment. As a founding partner of Soldier Ride, U-Haul visits over 15 cities nationwide each year providing logistical support, evening events for warriors and WWP supporters, volunteers, donations, and much more. Soldier Ride™ simply wouldn’t be possible without the support of U-Haul.
U-Haul also supports other WWP programs such as TRACK, the first education center in the nation designed specifically for wounded service members. When a new cohort of students travels to San Antonio, Texas or Jacksonville, Florida to be a part of the TRACK program, U-Haul is there to ensure the warrior, their family, and their belongings are safely transported to their new home at no cost to the warrior or WWP.
U-Haul was founded in 1945 by a Navy veteran who served our nation during World War II. At the end of that conflict, there existed a widespread need for do-it-yourself moving equipment on a one-way, nationwide basis. However, no one at that time was ready or willing to serve that need, so U-Haul was born.
Since it began, U-Haul has supported the U.S. military and hired many veterans to be a part of the U-Haul workforce ... veterans who remain a very large part of the Company's success. Today, U-Haul continues to seek veterans to become members of the U-Haul family. Since 2005, U-Haul has been a founding partner of Soldier Ride, and a proud supporter of Warriors to Work and TRACK, which are programs of Wounded Warrior Project. U-Haul is and always will be committed to serving our nation’s heroes. Find out more by visiting uhaul.com/vets.
